Lee's film tries to find the tension in a host of perhaps interesting themes (addiction, parental responsibility), but all are handled with a lack of finesse.

Blood Hunters has good performances, good tension, the impending arrival of the beasts adds to this tension in the story. Their first flash appearance is expected but still surprising, unfortunately they are not as menacing or scary as hoped.

I expected a meatier story, but strong performances couldn't infuse this slow burn story with the usual energy and chemistry found in a Lee film, although there's plenty of gore to be had.

Not only does Lee know how best to shoot her creatures, Blood Hunters' full body creature make-up is unique and looks great on camera. It's a major asset considering how prevalent they are on camera in the film's second half.
