Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: B- Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Robert Faires Austin Chronicle Rated: 2/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Bound by Honor contains some effective performances, some moments of deeply felt truth, and a portrait of prison life that I assume is accurate. What seems to be missing is a clear idea of why the movie was made. Rated: 2/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Lael Loewenstein FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It has an epic sweep to it... Performances are strong, script isn't bad. I wish it wasn't quite so long, but it's a powerful film. May 13, 2024 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn It was very well rooted in reality, which is something we typically don't see in films like this. It was also rewarding to see things come full circle for our central characters. Rated: 4/5 Oct 15, 2021 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn This is a very long movie but the performances elevated the material. Damian Chapa tried his best to lead this but there were some poor acting choices he made that threatened to derail the seriousness of the film. Rated: 3/5 Oct 15, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Chief B If I could give it 10 stars I'd give it 10 stars. It's such a masterpiece. I hear a lot that the acting is bad but let me tell you the acting is superb it also adds to the style in which the movie is made. The score gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it. The way it's been shot is beatiful and what people forget is that this is a period movie set in the beginning of the 70s. The atmosphere is intens and the realism explodes from the screen. The prison scenes are raw and realistic. The family dynamics are realistic and very familiar for me and the story of my family and the dynamics in my family . And on top of the realism blood in blood out has in my opinion a style that gives it almost a spiritual feel to it. People might say I'm crazy but the people who love this movie know what I mean. The running time is almost 3 hours but it's so good time flies by. Blood in blood out holds a special place in my heart and Still my review is objective. It belongs in the same row as the godfather 1 and 2, the good the bad and the ugly, the lord of the rings etc. I know masterpieces and this is one of them. That forgiveness is possible but a long road. That people can change (Paco). That no one person is greater than than the whole (Montana). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/24 Full Review Audience Member One of the best movies of all time in my opinion definitely in my top three.
