Daniel G 08/24/2021 Beautiful recount of the matriarchal nature of families in Portugal. See more 02/21/2013 Well constructed with exceptional sound design creating a very lived-in close-quarters experience. The stories themselves eventually become too much of a soap opera and the cinematography, while often very creative, well composed, and well lighted, regularly falls prey to the combined sabotage of digital capture and digital projection and ends up looking like a cheaply shot telenovela. See more 11/03/2012 The movie demands an appreciation of the art of dialogue. The characters have great depth and the story of a close but very flawed Portuguese family is quite compelling through most of the film. Many of the frames contain two subplots at once and a very intriguing dual dialogue. The film comes in a bit long for the subject matter and will have trouble holding the attention of casual film audiences. However, this is a very interesting film.
