Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Portuguese director Joao Canijo returns with his eighth feature, Blood of My Blood, a sprawling, all consuming portrait of one week in the life a matriarchal run familial unit in the slums outside Lisbon, and may indeed be his masterpiece. Daniel S Beautiful recount of the matriarchal nature of families in Portugal. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/21 Full Review Audience Member Well constructed with exceptional sound design creating a very lived-in close-quarters experience. The stories themselves eventually become too much of a soap opera and the cinematography, while often very creative, well composed, and well lighted, regularly falls prey to the combined sabotage of digital capture and digital projection and ends up looking like a cheaply shot telenovela. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie demands an appreciation of the art of dialogue. The characters have great depth and the story of a close but very flawed Portuguese family is quite compelling through most of the film. Many of the frames contain two subplots at once and a very intriguing dual dialogue. The film comes in a bit long for the subject matter and will have trouble holding the attention of casual film audiences. However, this is a very interesting film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a very good portuguese movie. You can relate to the characters and story of them. This tells you the truth, this is the real life and the story is told beautifuly. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
