Matt Bailey Not Coming to a Theater Near You Bloodthirsty Butchers is not necessarily Milligan's best film, but it is representative of his strangely compelling anti-aesthetic. Oct 4, 2004 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Here we are with another film from Andy Milligan and company. This one, Bloodthirsty Butchers, is Milligan's take on Sweeney Todd. There are plenty of moments for blood and gore, most of which made me laugh out loud. I'd say that I found this one a bit more entertaining than the last film of his that I watched (The Rats Are Coming...), but not by a wide margin or anything. This has a little bit more going for it. The actors may not be perfect, but they certainly appear professional on-screen. They never glance at the camera or break character, so that's saying something. The dialogue is mostly trite and scenes go on much, much, much longer than they ever need to. There's also the constant score in the background, which never fits any of the scenes. I particularly laughed out loud during the love-making scene set to a sea shanty. So anyways, this is about mediocre for Milligan, and mediocre is better than just terrible, I suppose. It could have been much, much worse. There's a bit more production value to it as well, but none of it was sunk into the visuals or the post-production, that's for sure. Not the worst or the best he's done, but slightly entertaining in some areas. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
