While investigating the murder of a fellow officer, veteran Renee Lomito discovers a mysterious figure in the body cam footage. Haunted by visions of the event, she suspects something supernatural is targeting the cops in her unit. Body Cam starts with promise but quickly loses momentum, struggling to balance horror, police procedural, and emotional drama. Mary J. Blige’s performance is a highlight—she brings gravitas, urgency, and sincerity to her role as a cop navigating trauma and corruption. Early scenes hint at a tense, engaging thriller, yet the story falters when supernatural elements are introduced, creating tonal inconsistency and uneven pacing. The screenplay attempts to tackle multiple themes—justice, corruption, trauma, and the paranormal—but never fully develops any of them, leaving the plot scattered and hard to follow. Direction feels uncertain, with shifts between genres that never coalesce into a coherent vision. While the cast, particularly Blige, provides moments of grounding and authenticity, the overall execution undermines their efforts. Body Cam is watchable and has potential, but its lack of focus and cohesion prevents it from being a truly engaging or memorable film.
