A car accident leaves young Albert (Haley Joel Osment) orphaned, so he goes to live in New Jersey with Harriet (Whoopi Goldberg), who was his late mother's adopted sister. When the two of them have trouble getting along, Albert copes by befriending Bogus (Gérard Depardieu), a friendly, caring French magician who happens to be a figment of his mind. People soon forget that Whoopi Goldberg is a winner of The Golden Globe award for her best performance of "The Color Purple" and that she's a fine actress in her own right... But this movie is not up to par with other movies that she starred in! Thus I rate this film a *3 & 1/2* star movie!!!

Love me some Gerard...it is harmless fun wrapped around a serious issue. The dancing scenes were a bit much, but all in all, I enjoyed it.

It got a little weird at times and is not very memorable, but it's a decent family movie. Gérard Depardieu was an odd choice for the title role. (First and only viewing - 2/17/2015)
