A car accident leaves young Albert (Haley Joel Osment) orphaned, so he goes to live in New Jersey with Harriet (Whoopi Goldberg), who was his late mother's adopted sister. When the two of them have trouble getting along, Albert copes by befriending Bogus (Gérard Depardieu), a friendly, caring French magician who happens to be a figment of his mind. This new companion helps the youth come to terms with the loss of his parents -- but also, unexpectedly, helps Harriet confront her own feelings.

Essentially the movie is about the charm of the actors, especially Goldberg and Depardieu. Go to Full Review

It's a shame, given the promising teaming, that the two stars don't get to interact until the last one-third of the movie. Go to Full Review

sanja s 04/21/2021 Love me some Gerard...it is harmless fun wrapped around a serious issue. The dancing scenes were a bit much, but all in all, I enjoyed it. See more 10/31/2019 I loved this sweet, touching, fanciful Norman Jewison movie - Haley Joel Osment, Whoopi Goldberg and Gerard Depardieu portrayed their characters beautifully. See more 02/18/2015 It got a little weird at times and is not very memorable, but it's a decent family movie. Gérard Depardieu was an odd choice for the title role.
