Air Force Sgt. Chuck Brennan (Karl Malden) is ready to retire and trade in his uniform for a cushy civilian job -- especially when brash Col. Jim Herlihy (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) becomes his commanding officer and starts to court his pretty young daughter, Lois (Natalie Wood). The two men have a contentious history: Brennan blames Herlihy for an enemy bombing raid that killed a man during the Korean War. But could a special assignment on the new B-52 bombers change Brennan's mind?

Steve D 01/25/2024 The lame script sinks it. See more 07/20/2015 I thought this was a good film. Karl Malden plays a subject matter expert. He is a Air Force Master Sergeant (Senior NCO) at the cross roads of retirement (20yrs). Should he stay in or should he go? For a change it is actually about the technicians that keep the planes flying and not the pilots. Any old school SNCO (and spouses) will find it difficult the change the channel.
