Alex S A beautiful act of courage by Bono Vox, who lays bare his uncertainties, family relationships, and the way he sees and reacts to the injustices of our planet as a rock star. This confessional documentary depicts a man's search for a connection with his father, his family, his band and his faith, giving voice to his feelings throughout his career. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review Director N If you like: theatre, the band U2, and confessions of one man’s life, this is a run away home run hit. Shot in that murky monochrome nearly b/w scheme with moody angles, that takes the viewer into a headspace of being in a dark theatre. Drawing the viewer in to the life of Bono and the consequences of his actions, decisions and life is entertaining and revealing. Guests can be seen in a few clips just getting up to the incredible high energy of the song “I will follow “ as Bono weaves them through a story of his past and suddenly boom you are at Wembley Stadium live while rocking out to the tune. Would have loved to see this show live in a New York theatre.! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review David P. I took me a bit to get into the way this memoir is presented by Bono—part concert, part theatre. It is an eye-opening, poignant, and humorous telling of his family life, the formation of U2, and how this fed into the music. There’s a great quote mentioned a couple of times which he attributes to his dad, “If the world was just, you wouldn’t need charity.” I have a new appreciation for the man and the songs (stories) after watching this. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review David M This film of Bono's show promoting his memoir is as intimate, confessional, and occasionally startling as the book itself. With a well-designed stage show that takes in new versions of a variety U2 songs, and some imaginative staging of the monologues, it's a show that even at times plays with the idea that Bono may be an unreliable narrator of his own story. It won't convince the die-hard Bono-haters, nor change much the extreme Bono-fans think; but it is shot through with insight, and a good motivation to seek the book out. Andrew Dominik wisely shoots it in black and white, adding to the confessional tone, and the show mostly focuses on Bono's complex relationship with his father. Occasionally both infuriating and thrilling, it's at once what you expect it to be ... and nothing like you expect. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Sean F Bono a.k.a “The Showman” gives us a deep dive into the world that produced U2. Incredible honesty about the early years and heart warming moments that really give an emotional connection to how Bono’s personal life shaped him from boy to man to world class performer. Based on the content covered, I’d like an episode 2 and 3 and so on. U2 have a long and complicated career that far exceeds the accomplishments of other bands. So much more to this band that just hit songs, of which they have plenty of across the decades. And Bono’s voice, sounding awesome!!! The back up band, such a good fit. Well done all. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/25 Full Review Barbara A As a U2 fan my entire adult life, there's stuff I learned about my favorite band. The song writing came to life for me. Loved the book and this only made it that much better. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
