John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) The director keeps the creatures off-camera for most of the film, but when they do show up they're at once ridiculous and brilliant: rubbery, king crab-like things... Anderson Combustible Celluloid This is a fairly typical, low-rent, low-imagination horror movie of the early 1980s. Raiodesol S The slow pace and underused creatures really don’t help this movie. While the story is good enough and the characters are basically the soul of the movie, nothing else seems to hold up. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Audience Member Pretty great little monster movie! The creatures are effectively kept offscreen for most of the film, and we spend a lot of time getting to know and connecting with the protagonists, who are very likeable and human. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/13/18 Full Review Audience Member The video and audio quality are too poor to make this watchable, and nothing ever happens. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member The Boogens is actually a really good slasher-style movie from the 80's. Miners open up a old mine and release these carnivorous creatures that have been dormant for years. People die horrifically, and we get some great characters. The characters in this story are real people. They act like real people act, are likable, and are fun. The setting of the mine is claustrophobic and disorientating. The only real letdown is the reveal of the creatures themselves. They are just rubber things and the sound of growls laid over top. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Me decepcionó que casi no mostraron mucho los monstruos. Muy poquito y no explicaron de donde venían realmente o que eran y los otros túneles a las casas, ¿qué? no pasó nada con eso, además el poster muestra dos manos esqueléticas, los boogens tienen como tentáculos. Además por qué se llaman boogens. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I STILL remember how this movie scared me TOO DEATH when I saw it back when it first came on HBO...
