Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (LAist) [Jimmy Warden] can come up with a hook, but the movie itself is pretty underwhelming. May 13, 2025 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Despite two talented leads, the loose, fictionalized remix of a true stalker case struggles to strike a coherent balance between comedy and horror, landing instead on a repellent, vapid anti-love letter to ’90s Los Angeles. Rated: 2/5 Mar 14, 2025 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com The breathless pace, and all these jagged tonal asides, can leave you feeling more than a little disoriented, especially as they drag Warden further from the toxic romance that’s supposed to undergird “Borderline”‘s central story. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 14, 2025 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages “Just like a Hollywood actor or actress who doesn’t quite know when to stop performing amongst family members and friends, ‘Borderline’ is frequently annoying yet always entertaining and unpredictable.” Sep 18, 2025 Full Review Rachael Harper SciFiNow Borderline thrives on its audacity. It’s not subtle, but it’s so much fun. For those in the mood for something stylish, unpredictable, and just the right amount of insane, this will hit all the right notes -- literally. Rated: 4/5 Sep 15, 2025 Full Review Joel Harley Starburst Its successes are outweighed by everything that’s not-so-great, including entire sub-plots and characters Warden’s screenplay could have done without. Wiigy A must-see. A hoot and holler with thrills, chills, laugh, the whole kit and caboodle. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review miguel a A bodyguard protects a pop superstar and her athlete boyfriend from a determined stalker in 1990s Los Angeles. Pros: Dark comedy stalker/home in asion movie. Samara Weaving is great as always. Really fun performance from Ray Nicholson who chews up every scene he is in. Surprise performance goes out to Alba Baptista who is hilarious. Funny dark humor and surprisingly violent. The third act had me rolling. Cons: Takes a little too long to get going. Nothing really new done here. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review Paulette D I thought the comes down to what you find funny to not! Simply said, I thought it was hilarious! The main characters were put in a situation where you really do not know what's going to happen next. Ray Nicholson was absolutely charming and creepy all at the same time! They were all great! It is a dark comedy! So, be prepared to get dirty! I have read the critic reviews! For the critics You do know who his father is? Not to shadow Ray Nicholson but his father is made of dark comedies. I believe the critics need to take the sticks out of their ASSES please! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/21/25 Full Review Jeffrey P Subtly captivates and entertains with an edge. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/20/25 Full Review Monsieur F What a disappointment. Good over-acting by Ryan Nicholson, Samara Weaving was better in „Ready or Not“ or „Azrael“. Here, she has not that much to do. The movie has some heavy issues concerning the script and the storytelling: The script starts with a lie and Ryan Nicholson as the first person narrator. The lie tricks the viewer and the first person narrative is never again important for the movie. Emotions are shown through the overuse of playing songs, meaning, the narrative is not confident in its script and storytelling. It has to use this trick in filmmaking showing that the direction is not good. So it’s more of style over substance thing for the first time director. The script takes decissions for a black comedy but the ideas don‘t really take off. And: Borderline has nothing to do with hallucinations, so the title of the movie makes no sense. At the end this movie is like an overlong music video. Ryan Nicholson is rememberable, the movie unfortunately forgettable after watching. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/25 Full Review Julian S. Mostly a mess, yet moments of brilliance sneak through. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
