What to Know

Critics Consensus

Boulevard features a richly layered performance from Robin Williams, but that may be this dour drama's sole distinctive feature.

Phil W. Bayles Little White Lies Like its protagonist, this is an almost painfully shy and unrevealing film. Rated: 2/5 Apr 10, 2016 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) It's a lugubrious, creaky affair, as Williams squishes up his face and droops his shoulders with a coyness that can be downright embarrassing. Rated: 2/5 Apr 10, 2016 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) A plodding misfire. Rated: 1/5 Apr 7, 2016 Full Review Jim Ross TAKE ONE Magazine With an adept supporting cast, this character driven story - which could easily have succumbed to its more clichéd elements - is helped along ably by Montiel's direction and avoidance of dramatic histrionics. Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Matthew Bond The Mail on Sunday (UK) It's slow, atmospheric and rather good, with the underlying sadness that Williams brought to most of his serious roles. Still, at least he leaves us with a smile on his face. Rated: 3/5 Oct 24, 2017 Full Review Joanne Soh The New Paper (Singapore) [The] Boulevard becomes predictable, despite [Robin] Williams' strong, controlled performance. marwa n Great movie , i love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/12/24 Full Review Jeff M I knew nothing about this movie when it came across my suggested titles on Amazon Prime. The synopsis said it was the last screen appearance by Robin Williams, so I figured it was worth checking out just to see his final performance. Sadly, Williams didn't go out with a bang. This is a very quiet, subtle film, which is fine, but its quietness and subtlety are so extreme as to make the whole enterprise virtually nonexistent. Except for a scene toward the end with the always wonderful Baker, there is no energy or passion. True, the protagonist here is a man beaten down and stifled, but William seems to create a series of mannerisms rather than a fully fleshed out character. His scenes with Aguirre, which constitute a majority of the movie, do not feel rooted in reality but rather the conceit of a screenwriter. Williams had some fine dramatic work throughout his career, and while I commend him for taking on a role quite unlike anything he had done before, the result will not go down as one of his most memorable films or performances. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review isla s This is very much a film about loneliness, secrets and perhaps self reflection, or introspection. I watched it as it stars Robin Williams and I hadn't seen it before - I enjoy most of the films he's made, especially in the last 10-20 years of his life. This is very much a film with him as the man, husband walking around with inner turmoil, somewhat unsure what to say or what to offer. I felt like I could imagine the frustration and upset the main character, Nolan, felt - Robin was very facially expressive and this is, of course, the case in this film. Suffice to say, this is a sad film but its a well made film, which I would recommend, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Nolan is a sixty year old man in a marriage of convenience. He is driving home from work when he makes a u-turn and picks up a troubled young street hustler. He pays for his time with him but only to talk. From here they meet on a regular basis as their friendship begins to grow and Nolan realises that he has spent most of his life living a lie. I maybe wrong but I think this might have been Robin Williams' final film. It is a decent one to leave us with. Williams gives a very subtle performance as a man struggling with long buried feelings and struggling to keep his secret life secret from those around him. A good character study with memorable performances. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Robin Williams's acting was layered, however the plot was too dragged and did not give me a clear story. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member It’s a three out of star film and fine for it. I don’t understand the hate tbh Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/28/18 Full Review Read all reviews
