Nick F Gregory Peck is compelling as a rancher seeking revenge on four men he believes raped and murdered his wife. His broody taciturn performance is largely due to fine acting with just his eyes and voice, as he seldom changes facial expression. The tense fast-moving plot unfolds with a strong cast including Northern Ireland actor Stephen Boyd, a young Lee Van Cleef and English actor Joan Collins, just 25 at the time and fast building a Hollywood career. Peck gives a towering performance as a tortured soul bent on revenge, expertly directed by Henry King against a stunningly bleak Mexican vista, and the twist ending is a real shock. The Bravados is an engrossing and engaging Western, not quite a classic but not far short. This has a great cast including Lee Van Cleef. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Angelo C Great western with a twist at the end. Peck is magnificent and Boyd is terrifying. For once the critics got it right but the audience score watched another movie because I love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Mat L Visually stunning and rather original. Well acted by a solid cast. Poor Joan was so reliable and professional that you could put her in any dreck and she would make it work or even turn it into a cult hit. Here she's lovely and very appealing in her best American accent, and you just wish there was more of her. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Steve D Predictable but solid western.
