Audience Member Another finely directed martial arts action film from director Cheh Chang. This one features a number of the Venom Mob regulars working together before they got huge with "Five Deadly Venoms" and although not the full team is here, the fight sequences are amazing. The plot is pretty convoluted and I have to admit I got lost at a few points, but it is basically a young archer overcoming a series of martial arts tests. There's not quite as much wall-to-wall action as you get in most Cheh Chang films, but it's a pretty classy Shaw Brothers production and the fight scenes that are here are terrific. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A strange martial arts flick adapted from The Eagle Shooting Heroes. Fu Sheng plays Kuo Ching, a young man whose father was murdered when he was a child. He is raised by multiple martial arts masters, and the must defeat three challenges in order to win the hand of marriage from a young woman. Strangely enough, Fu Sheng never uses a bow in this movie. The movie is less focused on fight scenes and more on fantastical feats of strength or cunning. It was a decent enough movie, simply because the plot was engaging with the simple romance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member It is either the fact that there is no bow, arrow or mention of an archer or the main character has a beyond terrible haircut that makes this movie dissatisfactory. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie! It's different from most of what I've been watching lately in that it's a costume piece epic that focuses on story and character development more than mindless action. There's still plenty of action, but in shorter bite-sized moments. And the story isn't perfect -- basically you have a huge cast with people coming and going quickly, so there are loose ends. I saw Shaw mega-star Ti Lung during the opening credits but I don't recall him from the movie -- I think they had to cut him out. It's quite long by their standards. But I enjoyed every minute and wish there was more. So many great stars, some great comedy, and I must admit I loved the sweet love story that starts in the most unexpected way and lasts the entire rest of the movie. I have such a huge crush on Niu Tien's character. She was amazing! My god I need a woman like that! The two brothers are on a mission to find the best form of kung fu. They fight numerous masters, priests, and students in their mission to learn the ultimate form of martial arts. The storyline for this film is twisted and eventually become incoherent. The film is more about the individual characters rather then the actual plot. The acting and choreography is solid. “You drank my snake’s blood, now I’ll drink yours.” The baby naming sequence, the two fathers getting killed, the opening introductions, Centipede versus the 5 fingers of death, the skeleton claw flashback, the tattooed manual, the lunch order, the fight for the rights to the bride, the snake attack sequence, the true father discovery, the mother slicing her own throat, the thieves being turned to slaves and then losing their tongues explanation, the changing of the seasons during the song, and the fight during the recital were amongst the better portions of the film. “I think we should bury his head. However, they are presented on an individual and limited basis. Only a few characters receive adaquete screen time, and the characters who receive extended screen time are usually not from the Venoms. Lizard received quite a bit of screen time from the Venoms but he did not appear in many action sequences. There are four volumes to the Brave Archer collections, and I will review them all; however, I would recommend viewing any of the Venom films prior to the Brave Archer series. “Get married, and your kung fu suffers.” Grade: C+ Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Plot: The story of two young kung fu students who are being taught by two different masters with the intent of having them fight at a later date in order to determine which had the better teacher. The movie is based on a famous Chinese novel series. A pretty good movie with great sets and costumes. Of course some great classic Material Arts fight scences. If your a fan of ol' skool Material Arts movies then you would probably like this movie. I dont't think a casual viewer would enoy it. Quotes: "You six can kill yourselves and save me the trouble of doing it."
