It has the morals, silly songs, and overall amazing theme/soundtrack. The acting is perfect for the tone. Deals with not getting involved with strangers to doing the right thing even if it means putting your own life on the line. An almost forgotten masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Audience Member 35 years may have passed but I remember renting this so much as a kid It has an interesting history; animator John Lasseter originally pitched it as a computer-animated feature to Disney, which upset a studio executive so much that he fired Lasseter within minutes Lasseter took the concept to Hyperion Pictures, which later released it as an independent production to positive reception Lead to several sequels too An idea so simple yet works phenomenally; Basically several appliances are alive but they keep it secret from humans The core group here is a toaster, a blanket, a vacuum cleaner, a radio, and a lamp Their human master is a small boy who’s taken care of them all their lives but he grows up he’s moving out of his house in the countryside and off to college The appliances are worried he’s abandoned them for good so they all set out on an adventure to track him down But they have to brave the elements, come across other inanimate objects that come alive, and prove to themselves they can be brave and still be wanted I loved how much effort was put into this; you have to admire the softer moments, the ones focusing on the loneliness of these appliances trying to get back to their master There's a sense of harshness looming overhead too Charming characters and cute song numbers along with some really intense scary scenes I gotta say Even won a parents choice award and was a smash hit at the Sundance Film Festival The Worthless song is some people’s favorite, it’s very catchy Smooth animation and on-point expressions make for a very memorable entry from Disney that’ll always have a special place in our hearts Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
