Brawl in Cell Block 99 rides a committed Vince Vaughn performance into the brutally violent -- and undeniably entertaining -- depths of prison-set grindhouse genre fare.

Tara Brady Irish Times Brawl in Cell Block 99 is a comeback and a showcase for the bone-dry delivery of Vince Vaughn, who has never brooded bigger and badder than he does here. Rated: 4/5 Oct 23, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) I can't remember violence in a film eliciting such verbal reactions. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2017 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Metro Newspaper (UK) [Vince] Vaughn is captivating in his vulnerable, forlorn-eyed, rage-fuelled intensity. More than anything, it's him that compels you to watch through these 132 demolishing minutes. Rated: 3/5 Oct 19, 2017 Full Review Brendan Cassidy InSession Film The year’s best film about brutal and emotional anger lies within S. Craig Zahler’s tribute to 1970’s exploitation films. Jul 2, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …Vaughn has never been better than he is here… Rated: 3/5 Jun 18, 2023 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine As with Tomahawk, the film looks absolutely hideous: super-digital, with lots of interiors bathed in sick greens and grays. Please get this man a great color correction package for his next feature. Jan 10, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

David W When I think "straight to VHS" this is what I will now think of. It is comically unrealistic. "BuT iT's jUsT a MoVie". Yes, but a movie that's supposed to be based in reality. If you don't care at all about acting, writing, or reality, then is may be good for you. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review R D I am genuinely shocked to see people rating this movie so highly. Before finally watching this today I had passed by it many times while scrolling through Netflix but never chose to watch because just the cover photo screamed B-grade movie and this type of film seemed strange for Vince Vaughn. The movie feels not only cheap but as if it was written & directed by someone who spent 0 time researching and dealing with real life people who could advise how the criminal/prison life element actually is. Except for well known actors(Vince Vaughn & the woman who plays his wife) you’d think this was a film done by complete amateurs. I’m typically the type of person that always finishes a movie even if it’s awful but this one was really tough to watch until the end. It blows my mind that Vince Vaughn agreed to do this movie Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Georgan G This very violent crime film is action packed from beginning to end. Vince Vaughn does an outstanding job. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Melissa B Vince does an amazing job, great action and very bloody Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/26/24 Full Review Emmanuel A This movie is good for what it is, usually I’m used to the comedic/ wholesome Vince Vaughn. This movie, however, was a welcome change and an interesting role for VV. The kill scenes are a bit much but what do you expect from the man who directed “Bone Tomahawk” and “Dragged Across Concrete”? What you see is what you get! Not much depth to the story but it’s a fun watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Harry S Not bad , but I’ve seen better quality props in a school play Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review Read all reviews
