Brawl in Cell Block 99 rides a committed Vince Vaughn performance into the brutally violent -- and undeniably entertaining -- depths of prison-set grindhouse genre fare.

Rick O Not for those with a weak stomach. The fight scenes are the most brutal ever put on film. Vaughan is excellent. Also well written with a lot of clever dialog. The bad guys REALLY get what's coming to them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Cork B A departure for Vaughn for sure! He is this good ole boy that needs money to support his less than stellar wife. But he loves her, see? So of COURSE he has to transport drugs. And through dumb mistakes and odd motivations I didn't quite follow, ends up in the worst prison ever locked in with the baddies he owes money too. It is violent and gory, and the mundane prison scenes build the tension. I wouldn't say this is a great film, but it is certainly effective as a prison gore flick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Jim B Vince Vaughn's performance is right on point in this movie. He displays an emotional range and complexity you might not expect from this kind of action thriller. It's just as captivating in the quiet moments as it is the loud ones. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Ben V Flawless movie speaking otherwise from his random shooting spree. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Scotty B Overall was good. If I could I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. The plot was good, but I think it stretched a bit far. The violence was surprisingly gorey, which added an element of shock to the movie. The acting was very good, back stories on the characters was a little sub par. But overall if you like violent thrillers you will probably enjoy this movie. Tara Brady Irish Times Brawl in Cell Block 99 is a comeback and a showcase for the bone-dry delivery of Vince Vaughn, who has never brooded bigger and badder than he does here. Rated: 4/5 Oct 23, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) I can't remember violence in a film eliciting such verbal reactions. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2017 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Metro Newspaper (UK) [Vince] Vaughn is captivating in his vulnerable, forlorn-eyed, rage-fuelled intensity. More than anything, it's him that compels you to watch through these 132 demolishing minutes. Rated: 3/5 Oct 19, 2017 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …Vaughn has never been better than he is here… Rated: 3/5 Jun 18, 2023 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine As with Tomahawk, the film looks absolutely hideous: super-digital, with lots of interiors bathed in sick greens and grays. Please get this man a great color correction package for his next feature. Jan 10, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A gritty, primal film that contains artful sensibilities and substantive characters. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 17, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
