If this was just a silly romantic comedy, it would be completely forgettable, but the story has some meat on its bones, and the the performances by Hepburn and Peppard make this a movie worth watching, at least once, just to see why it is so famous.

This film is a classic, probably mostly because of Audrey Hepburn. I did enjoy the scenes with the cat - some of the best uses of that animal I’ve seen in cinema. The Hepburn love interest is kind of a stiff, though, isn’t he? and that yellow face material with Mickey Rooney sure doesn’t age well at all. Apart from all that, this is a story about some bohemians living in New York in the 50s with loads of quirks and eccentricities and tons of great New York scenery, so if you are a New York-o-phile you should enjoy it.
