Started as a story highlighting the x-section of Islam and queerness. It quickly down-spiraled into a story of a care-free, fun-loving white savior, whose name is literally indicating he's Superman and depicted as the man of the town in West Hollywood, saving the day for a Muslim gay man whose heart was broken by another Muslim man and the religion's expectations. Nothing more than a Hollywood cliché.

Finally! A film about Arabs that doesn't involve tired tropes and stereotypes. And a beautiful love story at that. This film has everything-its romantic, funny, and clever. It thoughtfully explores what it means to be both Muslim and gay, without assuming those two identities are in conflict with one another. The writing, acting, and directing is top notch. The music is incredible and adds so much to the story. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite films!

As in most rom-coms, it's not if the couple will get together but how. Still, Mosallam's incisive and heartfelt, if occasionally on-the-nose, approach to matters of love, religion, family and culture sets the film apart.
