Brooklyn's Finest

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's appropriately gritty, and soaked in the kind of palpable tension Antoine Fuqua delivers so well, but Brooklyn's Finest suffers from the comparisons its cliched script provokes.

Anna Smith metro.co.uk What gives this an extra star is Ethan Hawke: there are plenty of guns blazing in this movie but the real fire comes from his powerhouse performance. Rated: 3/5 Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Ed Koch The Atlantic All the actors are excellent in their portrayals of their characters. Jan 13, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Each actor, including Wesley Snipes as a fresh-out-of-jail ex-con, gives one of their grittiest performances in this gripping cop drama reminiscent of 2006's The Departed and 1991's New Jack City. Rated: A Sep 11, 2017 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Brooklyn’s Finest drags at a snail's pace toward outcomes that are predictable from the moment we’re introduced to the characters. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 18, 2023 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse The early morning drinking and pseudo suicide attempts are meant to give us insight into the character but come off as tired images recycled from better movies. Rated: 2/5 Jan 31, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com The film is worth a view as a study of just how compelling an actor can be smack dab in the middle of a hyper-violent crime thriller. Giselle M It’s July 2024 and I went back to watch this great one. They don’t exactly make them like this anymore. Outstanding performance from ALL the actors. Great true depiction. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Audience Member It's good for what it achieves in some instances. My big take away is there's too many sub-plots with little time and they don't go anywhere. Both Geer and Hawke were beyond serviceable in their roles and in fact in many scenes it felt very natural for Geer in the blue. He pulled it off but this can only move the needle so much ! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/10/24 Full Review mark g This was an ugly film. A lot of undesirable characters and seedy situations. However, the leads shine, in particular Hawke and Geer. So many great and challenging scenes. I think fans wanted Hollywood, this ain't that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Chuck Houck C Fifteen years later, still dumbfounded by this movie's poor reviews. Yup, it's derivative. Yup, it relies on tropes. Okay, at this point, what kind of NYC cops & crime movie doesn't rely on derivation and tropes? Directed by the best cops & crime director in the business, I've been glued to my television screen every time I've watched this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Chanelle A Gritty, well performed, excellent cast. Storyline was a bit disjointed and did not flow. The performances carry the movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Bruno V Filme de qualidade e com elenco de peso. Infelizmente a violência nesse filme foi pouca para mostrar a brutalidade da realidade do submundo.
