bryan m This is a very interesting story. This Roy guy is scum. What a piece of trash he is. He makes you want to jump thru your screen and smack him around. L O S E R Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review Michael W This HBO documentary was really good. The entire crew did an excellent job on making this shocking documentary about con artist Roy Johnson. Creating a school that doesn't exist and ruining the lives of the football players on his team was downright evil. Roy has no shame, remorse, or respect for anything. He is consumed by greed and will do anything to get what he wants. One day he will suffer the consequences for his actions. If you haven't seen this documentary yet, check it out sometime. It'll show you that you shouldn't trust people like Roy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Alec B This is a fascinating documentary on Roy Johson's scam high school which targeted underprivileged, inner-city students for high school football. One of this documentary's major pulls is the inclusion of Johnson as an interview subject. This HBO Max original left me heartbroken for the young men who fell victim to this con artist's scams...and opened my eyes to the gaps left open in youth athletics and education where con artists can act with predatory intentions. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review Dana S Just shocked what Roy Johnson did to those kids and that he isn't telling his story behind bars. What's even worse is he doesn't see what he did as wrong. Truly sad! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/06/23 Full Review Tyler G They interview a wide array of key people in the story and many of them are brutally honest. It is funny, sad, and frustrating at different times. Roy Johnson is so insufferable it is hard to sit through at times. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Edmund D Interesting and bizarre. It's amazing that this con lasted for several years. D. Watkins Salon.com That is why this film is required viewing. We can't continue to allow fake sports people rob our kids of their money and dreams. Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times One of the most bizarre, disturbing and inexplicable debacles... Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 26, 2023 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal The reasons to watch “BS High,” besides the slo-mo car-crash quality of the narrative, are what it says about the plight of kids with dreams who lack the grades, the money, the connections to get on the track to professional sports. Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment If anything, the doc is almost too caught up with Johnson’s audacity to work more towards providing a more explicit critique of his methods. With that said, when someone is laying it all out so clearly, it's up to the audience to see the truth. Rated: 7/10 Sep 27, 2023 Full Review Kristian M. Lin Fort Worth Weekly I am perversely, ineluctably drawn to documentaries like BS High, where people who have done something really bad confidently sit down in front of the film crew and lay out their justifications for what they did. Sep 14, 2023 Full Review Nora Lee Mandel Maven's Nest Not just about sports, but a complicated story of how a conman deluded so many, particularly painfully African-American young men with no options to reach their college/NFL dreams into playing on a woeful football team for a fictional Ohio high school.
