Buba -- real name Jakob Otto -- has a problem: whenever things are going too well, something terrible happens. Since the tragic loss of his parents in an accident, Jakob firmly believes that he has to carefully offset any good feeling in his life. Together with his brother Dante he has developed a system to make his everyday life as unpleasant as possible. Johnny Loftus Decider Buba doesn’t have to be a prequel, and can exist solely as a crime comedy with the usual raft of violent eccentrics and bloody misunderstandings. Aug 22, 2022 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media This is a fairly typical action noir comedy in the tradition of Guy Ritchie movies. Rated: 3/5 Aug 10, 2022 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut When it all comes down to it, you care about Buba, but the film in total is the equivalent of a Seinfeld episode where characters act ridiculous, but nothing ever happens. Niklas L Unfortunately, the movie cannot connect well to the success and greatness of its associated series. I was extremely disappointed by the characters, flow and story. It feels like a bad "lets-do-a-spin-off-surely-people-will-watch" with a forced-upon screenplay. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/19/24 Full Review Audience Member An entertaining little movie, 85 minutes so doesn't overstay the premise. Light-hearted gangster fare. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member They say the Germans don't have a sense of humor, but when they do, it's a doozy, Fassbinder, Herzog, Gunter Grass, artists who work at the very edge of sanity that allow them to reveal deeper truths. If you go the the movies and are one of the few who laugh because the film's creator wants you to laugh, but you laugh alone, then you will love "Buba." Prost!
