brent m Yikes, what a snooze! This 2002 re-release, available for online streaming, tells the boring, aimless, meandering tale of a German soldier who inexplicably goes AWOL and returns home to stir up trouble with his elder brother, his older sibling's captivating girlfriend and his own onetime companion, all to no apparent end. Despite some inventive cinematography, there's really not much else to admire in this alleged satire (not sure where that label comes from) as viewers impatiently wait for the seemingly endless 1:25 runtime to play out. It's truly unfortunate that there are so many good films that never get a shot at a wide distribution, yet it's even more maddening when one that never should have gotten a release (like this one did) somehow manage to get an undeserved second chance. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I kept wondering why Paul seemed so aimless and unable to control himself. I also enjoyed Ms Dyrholm's acting and ability to be attractive and sexy with everyday clothing and very little hair styling and makeup. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member quite good german movie. 3/5 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A fantastic film about "mobility" in post-Wall Germany Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie... no joking here... it's a slow paced, intimate and uneventful story whose interest comes mostly from its silence... and then, that masturbation shot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting, suave German movie about a draftee who goes AWOL and spends the summer in his parents' bungalow. Nice movie about coming-of-age. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Steve Erickson Gay City News Unfortunately, almost everything about Bungalow is half-formed. But it's satisfying to have the opportunity to see a major director's starting point. Jul 14, 2020 Full Review Diane Carson KDHX (St. Louis) It's certainly difficult to make an engaging film about aimless, shallow people, and German director Ulrich Köhler hasn't. Jul 7, 2020 Full Review Josh Ralske All Movie Guide A laconically amusing deadpan comedy with an undercurrent of anger and despair that lends it an edge.
