Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse Sabu splendidly sketches his characters, chiefly Daikichi and Rin, that move on the borders of realism with their choices and general attitude, as is usual with manga adaptations, but within an utterly realistic frame Apr 13, 2020 Full Review Ard Vijn ScreenAnarchy "Usagi Drop" is a brilliant slice-of-life series which doesn't pull punches. Audience Member A heartwarming story about a male single parent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member They didn't exactly copy the whole anime but its still kawaii on its own. The only bad thing in this was that the kids casted lacked in acting and their character feels different. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm only 5 episodes in, but this is a very heartfelt, emotionally moving series with some quirky humor and fun animation. Love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This live action movie was adopted from an anime series with the same name. Synopsis : The film opens with a patriarch of a family last rites. He is Daikichi's (Ken'ichi Matsuyama) grandfather. But as the family has gathered in his house, they find that he had a little illegitimate daughter that he was raising. As the family is outraged and discusses "what to do with her, and to what institution to send her to," Daikichi cannot help but see a lonely young girl who just lost her father, who was her only loving relative. He decides to take her home with him and raise her. Thus starts his journey as a "single father..." Ken'ichi Matsuyama is such a good actor.. he's right on with his portrayal, and is able to portray the joy, the love, the pain, and the care of this single parent by choice. (And he won Best Actor for it from the Nikkan Sports Film Awards). But it is Mana Ashida in the role of the little girl, Rin, who will steal your heart, from the very first moment onward. A film that could have been a total soapy cliche, was surprisingly good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A really simple, but serviceable story: a comedy with modesty and tenderness, asexpected by the viewers accostumed to (not-Miike) apanese flicks. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Well, it could've been worse. Having both seen the amazing work of art that is the anime and read the manga I knew there was little hope for this movie, but I was curious nonetheless. And, all in all, it wasn't too bad. I very much disagree with the casting of Kouki's mother and the fact that they changed her career and personality. But aside from that, it was about what I expected. A live-action Japanese movie spawned from a manga. You know how those go, right? This one is no exception. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
