Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Christopher B. Landon's sordid anthology film never quite achieves the balance of melodrama and dark comedy for which it's aiming. Jan 14, 2011 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times Landon's sardonic view of human nature and deft filmmaking skills - plus a raft of sharp portrayals - keep the viewer from pondering the preposterousness of certain situations and instead encourages going along with the fun. Rated: 3/5 Jan 13, 2011 Full Review Tim Grierson Screen International Touching on taboo themes like rape, incest, and kinky bedroom exploits, Burning is a series of five Los Angeles-set short films that are only superficially provocative. Jan 13, 2011 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens I am one of the people that absolutely loves Burning Palms and its dark, twisted sense of humor. And trust me, you will be too. Nov 16, 2019 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com Little sensitivity here, but the film's obsession with grim deeds and sinister turns of fate lends the five stories a welcome kick of ugliness, which is a fascinating screen sensation. Audience Member I think that this movie is a forerunner for the genre. It was unlike anything I had ever seen, surprising me at every turn, shocking me always (with a smile on my face). You are forced to look at things that you aren't supposed to like, find funny, and you are surprised at the things in it that DON'T shock you. It is designed as a sort of therapeutic introspection of the person viewing the film. It diagnoses you and how much you have been cultured or sheltered. If you turn it off, you are in avoidance. If you watch it, you are haunted. If you choose not to watch it at all you will never know. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Very funny, very dark, worth checking out Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/19 Full Review Audience Member sick and twisted and it feels good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member F***IN Crazy and Hilarious!!! For a low budget flick, it's put together very well. I would recommend this movie to my mature friends for some cheap, but definitely sadistic laughs! ENJOY! LOL!
