Audience Member I loved the story of La Soga and how the movie portrayed corruption. It all comes full circle at the end. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review floyd b Personally, I've seen these types of movies too many times. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member "La Soga" is a surprisingly emotional tale about the criminal connection between NYC and the Domican Republic. It centers around a butcher's son who was too sensitive to kill a pig. Through intermittent flashbacks we see why he turns into a lethal cop known as "The Rope". "This is a gritty urban drama that transcends language and culture." "It's a thrilling ride" and "keeps the audience engaged right to the last frame." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The Best Dominican Film of all Time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member It was okay... the violence end of it seemed true-to-fact, the ending... not so realistic. Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald Rated: 2/4 Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Joseph Jon Lanthier Slant Magazine It's nearly impossible to discern crook from cop in the handheld, trigonometric angles and slice-and-dice editing of La Soga. Rated: 2/4 Aug 18, 2010 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Although at times the film gets bogged down in psychological murkiness, the relentless pace and brooding charisma of its star overcomes its narrative deficiencies. Aug 18, 2010 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) The Butcher's Son is an action thriller that situates Dominican cinema in a solid place. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 4, 2022 Full Review Jerry Portwood New York Press The focus could have been refined and made for a simpler tale. As is, it's a thrilling ride -- as long as you don't try to dig too deep into the narrative structure. Aug 18, 2010 Full Review Kam Williams NewsBlaze From 'Shots! Shots! Shots!' to 'Hot! Hot! Hot!'
