Audience Member A well-shot, well acted short out of Afghanistan about two young boys, one a blacksmith's son, the other living on the streets, as they deal with fate, ambition, fear, courage, fun, and sadness. Well there are things to like about this film, ultimately, it doesn't really offer any new insight into the genre aside from maybe the location. It's a fairly standard coming of age film that, ultimately, feels a little disjointed when it seems to abandon many of the themes it sets up. Still, credit to the young actors, Fawad Mohammadi and Jawanmard Paiz, for their very strong and honest performances. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member There are some stunningly beautiful shots of the Kabul landscape and the film prefers a glossier, more gentle approach to the extreme poverty that can't help but bleed through every shot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member My choice for best Live Action Short is Buzkashi Boys about two young friends in Kabul with dreams that war and poverty can't kill. CDW Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member As a good will project between the US and Afghan governments, this is a wonderful film. I'm glad it worked out to be a stunning, beautiful picture. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This had some really great moments- the chemistry between the two young leads sticks out in particular- but it was WAY too long and incredibly depressing.
