Kristen Lopez Spectrum Culture A necessity for anyone interested in analyzing Lumet's work or those just interested in watching good films. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2017 Full Review David Wiegand San Francisco Chronicle The film is fascinating and important as it is, and Buirski made the right decision in focusing largely on the Anker interviews with Lumet. Jan 3, 2017 Full Review Dorothy Rabinowitz Wall Street Journal [Lumet] had come to understand how some in Hollywood had ended up cooperating with investigators and giving them names. A characteristically blunt assessment of reality-a kind of which this portrait is full, as it is of warmth and wit. Dec 29, 2016 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times It reminded me how underappreciated he was. Lumet was integral in bridging the gap between old-school Hollywood, and the second wave of American directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Richard Linklater, the Coen brothers, and Steven Soderbergh. Rated: 4/5 Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Sean Mulvihill FanboyNation.com By Sidney Lumet feels incredibly tame and safe, a film that serves more as an introductory lesson for freshmen film students. Rated: 3/5 Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Peter Canavese Groucho Reviews Like Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow's De Palma (also released in 2016), by Sidney Lumet has one undeniable result: it instills a fervent wish to watch the director's entire output from beginning to end... Audience Member For those who read "Making Movies" and loved learning how a master craftsman created such thoughtful art over such a long career but was left wondering not just how Lumet made movies but how Lumet got made. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw many of these films in the 1970s and find them still relevant and, more importantly, still highly human. This retrospective flew by -- loved the stories Lumet told of his childhood, the arc of his career, and the detail of his many movies. Well worth a watch. If you are like me, viewing this film will send you back to see all Lumet's work again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member great film, learned so much about Lumet, his craft and philosophy. Lots of clips from his movie but they all flow together to get at bigger points. He is such a great storyteller. Loved it!
