Audience Member As this is a black and white film you have to accept the title for what it says, of course it represents more than just the colour of the water - this is an uplifting tale of discovery. The story itself is not overly interesting, but the style certainly is. At times this is a silent film, at other points it is a musical, all underpinning the romance which perhaps sadly has a too idealistic conclusion. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member A good attempt but struggles against the twin problems of technical limitations and Soviet dogma which was in full swing by the time this was made. Many regard it as a poetic masterpiece, but unlike his earlier films I think it conforms to the orthodoxy of socialist realism. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
