Peter Keough Boston Globe "Call Me Lucky" lives up to the irony and accuracy of its title ... Aug 20, 2015 Full Review Odie Henderson RogerEbert.com "Call Me Lucky" will be an especially grueling ride for those who can identify with Crimmins' trauma. Yet its toughness does not at all diminish its worth. It remains an essential viewing experience. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 7, 2015 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times An earnest homage that also honors Mr. Crimmins's crusade to drive child pornography off the Internet. Aug 6, 2015 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture There's raw humanity at the film's core. Much like with Crimmins himself, it just takes some extra work to see past the rough edges. Rated: 3/5 Jul 20, 2019 Full Review Betsy Sherman Arts Fuse A labor of love that's more than merely that, Call Me Lucky is one of the few great movies to come out so far this year. Aug 8, 2017 Full Review Craig D. Lindsey Nashville Scene It's no wonder Goldthwait used his impressively evolving directing skills on his old pal Crimmins... Barry Crimmins deserves a documentary. Garrett P I was unfamiliar with Barry Crimmins prior to this, and this painted a whole image of a comedian that targeted the many societal problems that affected him deeply. A fascinating documentary about an out-of-the-ordinary man. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review Tony S If you've never heard of Barry Crimmins I do not think that this documentary will make you interested in his persona or his comedy. Political soap box wrapped into a comedy act, that can be easily summarized as "Government is stupid" is not new and most definitely predates Crimmins. Granted, he did this with far more grace and wit, than modern comedians do. Crimmins is hellbent on telling you the truth and nothing but the truth, of course as long as it aligns with his and your political leanings. All that is just first part of documentary. The second part is what elevates this film. In fact, it makes it sort of frustrating that this "crusade" wasn't the main part of the narrative. Although I believe Crimmins would be against this. Since by his own words he does not see himself as a victim but a witness. And it would also shift the focus to much. Crimmins's perspective and stance on the trauma his was dealt is inspiring and makes his character more robust, than it appeared at the start of the documentary. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/25/21 Full Review Audience Member This is a heavy, intense documentary about the life of Barry Crimmins. Both past and present - dark and bright - grim and enlightening. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Clever, beautiful, haunting Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member THIS MOVIE WILL SAVE THE PLANET. IT NEEDS TO GO VIRAL Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Completely shocking. A man who suffered unimaginable trauma who didn't shrink into depression but spoke even louder and louder. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
