Kim Newman Empire Magazine It has its longeurs but there's an air of genial enthusiasm, tempered by sick humour, that is surprisingly engaging. Rated: 3/5 Oct 8, 2018 Full Review Anita Gates New York Times It's all pretty stupid, but at times, there are refreshingly ludicrous notes that even people old enough to see this movie without a guardian can appreciate. Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Rated: 3/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Germain Lussier io9.com What's also undeniable about the film is its charm. Everyone involved is so game to try things and so earnest with their performances. There's a sincerity to it. A warmness. Jay H The drunken commentary track is hilarious, but the movie itself runs out of steam about 40 minutes into it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Tom F I’ve been curious about this project for a while, and I’m glad I finally saw it. A low-budget Troma production, an affectionate homage to Oklahoma, and a story that covers many touch points of the real Alfred Packer’s life. It works pretty well as a musical on its own, and foretells future Trey Parker projects like South Park and Book of Mormon. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review nonya n I generally truly enjoy Parker & Stones stuff... I'm a person that can generally sit through anything. I even managed to make it through that horrendous Anne Heche remake of Psycho for gods sake, but this movie.... I just couldn't do it.... I even gave it a second chance with alcohol and couldn't do it. Made it maybe 20 minutes in, and just had to stop. I think this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd movie in over 40 years I haven't been able to make it through. Sorry guys... This one fell flat for me. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review David B 15 minutes was as far as I could go, bored to death. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Penguin S More proof that Trey Parker is a genius. He can write songs like no one's business. Great job with all the parts by those he went to school with. How is it that I've never heard of this until 2023, so many years later? Great musicals, and LOVED the cameo by the alien: a trick they continued throughout their caroon hit, Southpark. I've always loved Trey. Now I can love him even more.
