What to Know

Critics Consensus

Cannonball Run casts a bevy of famous faces as its wacky racers but forgets to give them characters to play, resulting in 90 dull minutes that feel like a marathon.

Ian Nathan Empire Magazine Nonsense but fun nevertheless with a crazy ensemble cast of celebrities of the era. Rated: 3/5 May 5, 2008 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Full of terribly inside showbiz jokes and populated by what could be called Burt and Hal's Rat Pack, film takes place in that redneck never-never land where most of the guys are beer-guzzling good ole boys and all the gals are fabulously built tootsies. May 5, 2008 Full Review Time Out The last five minutes, when they show out-takes of flubbed lines, etc, are hysterical. The rest is strictly for those willing to pay for a series of TV chat show performances. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Jas Keimig The Stranger (Seattle, WA) The Cannonball Run is stuffed full of stars and stupidity. Feb 1, 2022 Full Review Diego Galán El Pais (Spain) The movie doesn't go beyond repeating a formula of parallel stories. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 21, 2019 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro Cannonball Run exists somewhere in between being a last bastion of an 'old boys' Hollywood comedy, versus offering a wry send-up of those values. Dave C Good fun comedy, laced with parody puns and all the appeal of an 80's romp Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review Brent A 10% rating ... This film is a genuine waste of time. Famous actors without any characters to play. Very weak plot. Found nearly zero entertainment value. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Patrick D Cult Classic. Old time humor, nothing is sacred, no PC. Just like it should be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Jay E Sure, there's not much of a plot, but it's good friendly fun, and the on-screen comedic chemistry between Reynolds and DeLuise is ever-present. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Paco d A great movie from my childhood. Refreshing silly and just fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/25/23 Full Review David W Broad humour abounds with just about every 'ist' being ticked along the way but it still makes me laugh out loud. A great cast look like they're having a lot of fun and so do I every time I've watched it over the years. A true guilty pleasure movie which always raises a laugh from me. Amongst all the great comic turns on display, special mention must go to Jack Elam as the dubiously qualified doctor for hire, who cracks me up everytime I watch this. Very much of its time in its sensibilities but if you were born before the 80's you'll get most of the jokes without being offended and see it for the good natured, cult classic romp that it is. Maybe not one for the millenials or woke brigade though.. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
