What to Know

Critics Consensus

With plenty of pulpy action, a pleasantly retro vibe, and a handful of fine performances, Captain America is solidly old-fashioned blockbuster entertainment.

“Captain America: The First Avenger” is an old-fashioned adventure with modern digital effects, and one of the most confident and reliable entries in the Marvel Universe. It really is a pleasure to return to this film. [Full review in Spanish]. Go to Full Review

Bret M. @BretM-3 2h This movie has aged really well in my opinion. I didn’t remember too much of this movie from when I was younger, so it was kind of like rediscovering a classic. For starters, Chris Evans is great in the role. This is definitively Steve Rogers, and I can’t imagine anyone else in the role. Hayley Atwell is also great and I think Peggy and Steve’s romance is a strong storyline in the movie. I’m also a huge fan of the period piece element to this movie. Having it set during WWII throws an extra element of creativity and keeps this movie feeling unique from other MCU titles. I was also very pleased with Red Skull. From my childhood memories, for some reason I remembered him not being unmasked until the final battle, so I was surprised and very happy when he took off the mask about halfway through the movie. The makeup and prosthetics for Red Skull look great and, even though he doesn’t beat Loki, he is a strong Phase 1 villain. Overall, this is a an MCU Classic that fans need to watch. See more Jayden P @FEARitselfCB Mar 9 What a great MCU origin story and underrated movie. I found myself recently rediscovering this movie and honestly put it right up next to the quality of Iron Man and Avengers. Spot on story-telling, great action scenes, memorable quotes all sum up this masterpiece. Would highly recommend this movie. Acting is also superior among the cast and the setting of WWll is perfect with a great romance and spectacular villain conflict. See more andrew H @andrew512 Mar 5 the CGI is terrible. See more Jorge R. @jlrtechno Mar 5 Underrated and Amazing origin story to Captain America! 🇺🇸 See more Mitchell S @Mitchstur Mar 5 I love the setting! It's not often you get a superhero period piece. And what's better, the star character is noble and admirable!! See more Read all reviews
