Victoria Luxford BBC.com A real turning point in the Marvel Universe as it experiments with new genres, with tremendous action throughout. it’s not perfect, Robert Redford seems ill-at-ease, but eight years on it’s still terrific. Rated: 4/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Kate Erbland MTV Captain America: The Winter Soldier neatly and entertainingly puts into motion some big changes in the Marvel universe, while still sticking to its own charms - no easy feat, but one fit for a hero. Rated: 8.8/10 Nov 21, 2016 Full Review David Sims The Atlantic It knocks down a lot of the infrastructure the previous films had created, and it does so in a way that feels organic and refreshing for the Marvel world at large. Sep 22, 2016 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Trades the bombast and heroism for a subtle spy thriller with countless shades of grey in the divide between hero and villain, which is exactly what this character needed for his sophomore outing. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a superhero adventure by way of a political conspiracy thriller that teams up Cap (Chris Evans in all-American integrity mode) with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) when S.H.I.E.L.D. is infiltrated by the evil Hydra. Dec 3, 2022 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal The increasingly difficult struggle of Steve Rogers upholding his vow to remain a good man while wading through so much villainy achieves great resonance and this tremendously entertaining film, the MCU's best, is as interested in testing mettle as metal. Boots McGee action packed and just a fun time. very few lulls in the action, but usually those lulls are filled with pretty people in various stages of undress but no smut. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Quality F So much action and amazing visual effects. Also I love the fact we get to see more of S.H.I.E.L.D. and their powerful helicarriers. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review George B Oh yeah, after watching Thor: The Dark World, I was disappointed. This movie, unlike that one, is a well-construed, written, acted, and directed movie. There is so much to love about this movie it's hard to name it all. The plot is so well thought out, complete with great twists and turns to keep your eyes glued to the screen. I love the spy thriller aesthetic that this movie presents, and the action is amazing. The themes of "trust no one" are executed in a very solid and thoughtful way. The pacing is solid, the plot advances in a very natural way, and the movie sets up so much, and there are so many hints that I love. The movie does a great job with its characters. Steve, Natasha, and Nick are all very likeable characters with their own struggles; while also being likeable, they also have great chemistry. I love how Steve and Nat's relationship isn't romantic, as that wouldn't work at all. I also like the addition of Sam Wislon; he's very sympathetic. The Winter Soldier is an amazing villain; the reason I liked him was that he is only half human, making him relatable, not just an evil monster. I love watching his struggles with indentifying his past and resisting the changes made to his brain, as well as his relationship with Steve. Sebastian Stan gives an amazing performance. The direction is also solid, with the perfect mix of wide shots and close-ups. The fight choreography is great; each fight scene feels cared for and not rushed. I do have one small issue with the film, which is that the heroes seemed to be saved by plotholes a little too often, for example, a bad guy wating to kill a good guy just long enough for something to appear to save them. It's kind of stupid and not a big deal, and it's pretty easy to ignore if you feel like it. Overall, this movie is amazing. It does everything right; it only has some very small and almost unotible. I recommend it to anyone who likes superhero movies or just action movies in general. Overall: 9.4/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review Nick R Amazing action, great story, awesome twists, and a turning point for the entire MCU.
