Despite the swashbuckling charms of Kurt Russell's seafaring antics, Captain Ron capsizes in its hackneyed narrative waters.

Audience Member Fun adventure movie. Always been one I watched growing up by catching it on tv. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review RYNO L one of my families all time favorites Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/23 Full Review Enigma R This movie reminds of Summer Rental but lighter on laughs. I think at the time people expected more from a top notch comedy duo like Martin Short and Kurt Russell. Everyone played their roles well but could not overcome the weak writing. Still I have a soft spot for this film. It's good family viewing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review Ken C As a seafarer myself knowing the ins and out or the ocean and what it takes to get from A to B, Captain Ron is a sailing cult classic. Gets funnier every time you watch it (I've seen it at least 20 times now!). Please do watch this great, family friendly (there are some brief shots of Mrs Harvey in the shower and a couple of curse words, hence PG13) playful movie with laughs to be had in every scene! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Keith A This move is hilarious. Kurt Russell stole the film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/10/23 Full Review Daniel P There are parts of this movie you'll be quoting for the next 30 years. Yes, it's predictable, but it is family friendly and funny. Kurt Russel makes this movie work. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kim Newman Empire Magazine Russell puts in a worthy performance as the irrepressible Ron and Martin Short is typically neurotic as the father. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2016 Full Review Michael Wilmington Los Angeles Times Captain Ron is a movie about trapped suburbanites who break out into romantic seas, but it never really leaves suburbia... Like the Cap'n himself, this movie guzzles up its dreams and ignores the busted engine. Nov 22, 2016 Full Review Trevor Johnston Time Out Queasy ocean-going comedy, not helped by Kurt's Robert Newton impersonation. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...watchable yet entirely forgettable... Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Owen McNally Hartford Courant Aside from Russell's shameless performance, the movie is also afflicted with easily anticipated sight gags. Apr 18, 2018 Full Review TV Guide A bland, seagoing, feature-length sitcom which recycles the displaced-dad theme from the studio's recent hit What About Bob? to little effect.
