When mild-mannered Martin Harvey (Martin Short) finds out that he has inherited a vintage yacht, he decides to take his family on a Caribbean vacation to retrieve the vessel. Upon arriving on a small island and realizing that the ship is in rough shape, Martin and his family end up with more than they bargained for as the roguish Captain Ron (Kurt Russell) signs on to sail the boat to Miami. This movie reminds of Summer Rental but lighter on laughs. I think at the time people expected more from a top notch comedy duo like Martin Short and Kurt Russell. Everyone played their roles well but could not overcome the weak writing. Still I have a soft spot for this film. It's good family viewing.

As a seafarer myself knowing the ins and out or the ocean and what it takes to get from A to B, Captain Ron is a sailing cult classic. Gets funnier every time you watch it (I've seen it at least 20 times now!). Please do watch this great, family friendly (there are some brief shots of Mrs Harvey in the shower and a couple of curse words, hence PG13) playful movie with laughs to be had in every scene!

There are parts of this movie you'll be quoting for the next 30 years. Yes, it's predictable, but it is family friendly and funny. Kurt Russel makes this movie work.
