S P Starts slow but blossoms in a beautifully terrifying film on the horrors of the communist system and one man's search for peace. It goes as a fairy tale with each protagonist encountered reacting a certain way, and gives us a glimpse of the mental prison that they lived through. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Kemal A Kudos to the directors Natasha Merkulova and Aleksey Chupov for crafting such a captivating and distinctive Russian drama. The scenario is authentic and compelling with a unique obscure flavor. The essence reminds me the guilt of Raskolnikov. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Leslie Felperin Hollywood Reporter Flecks of jet-black humor add a wicked sparkle to an essentially tragic narrative. Sep 16, 2021 Full Review Jessica Kiang Variety A renegade Soviet agent races through Leningrad on a quest for redemption in a stylish thriller fueled by Stalin-era moral corruption. Sep 10, 2021 Full Review Carlos Aguilar The Playlist A riveting and ferocious pilgrimage that culminates on a savagely spiritual note. Rated: A Sep 10, 2021 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies The film is overwhelmingly painful; an original moral tale that, in the guise of a survival thriller, seeks for a trace of humanity. This is grim yet powerful cinema. Rated: 4/5 Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Cody Dericks Next Best Picture "Captain Volkonogov Escaped" is a moving, propulsive journey towards an attainable moral victory. Rated: 8/10 Jul 11, 2022 Full Review Deborah Young The Film Verdict A grotesque comedy set in the 1930s that gives full vent to the Russian lust for metaphor, mysticism and visual expressionism. (...) A coherent stylistic choice that pays off handsomely in the final moments. Oct 15, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
