Claudio C Caribe (2004) Selling the Soul to the Devil (12,038 – 04 Nov 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In Costa Rica, the biologist, businessman and farmer Vicente Vallejo (Jorge Perugorría) runs a banana plantation in the community of Limon with his wife Abigail (Cuca Escribano). Out of the blue, Abigail’s unknown stepsister Irene (Maya Zapata) in their real estate and Abigail welcomes and lodges her home. Meanwhile, the Reynolds Oil Company wants to exploit oil in the coast of Limo, and the locals and the environmentalists are against since the community economically survives due to fishing and eco-tourism. When the only buyer of Vicente’s production calls off the contract, he needs money and is bribed by the Reynolds’ lobbyists in Costa Rica. In addition, he has a love affair with Irene, who got pregnant with him. “Caribe” (2004) is a melodrama based on the life of a man, who sells his soul to the devil. Vincente is happily married to his wife and respected by his community. When his sister-in-law moves to his house, he betrays his wife. When the price of banana falls in the international market, he sells his community to an American oil company defending the oil exploitation by the foreigner company. He has the end that he deserved. Last but not the least, the cinematography is a tour in Costa Rica. My vote is seven.
