Don’t let anyone say they don’t make movies like they used to. Carnifex is a textbook 1970s-era monster mash-up. We don’t need no stinking budget; we got imagination, we got someone in a fur suit, let’s put on a show! Go to Full Review

It turns out the old-school monster formula still has a few tricks up its pouch in the Australian ecological horror flick Carnifex. Go to Full Review

Giancarlo Z @Giantcarlot 2d Simple, tight, and fun. This is growing to be my top Australian horror film. I hate that NO ONE got that thing on camera or anything to show anyone what they got attacked by, no one will ever believe them. Extra points: because I love how the main girl made sure goose was there and with her the entire time after she found him. Even more points because he survived at the end 🤭 See more Christian C Mar 29 There are a lot of bad reviews of this movie - because either some pedcon wanted to whine about environmentalism or because “they didn’t show the monster enough!!!!!” Those should really tell you who is reviewing this stuff: a handful of people who like good movies and a large group of man-child whiners. It’s significantly better than it should be. See more Britney O Feb 26 I thought this was a surprisingly enjoyable movie. The idea of something thought to be extinct and running into humans more and more is a fun little concept for a creature feature as we are experiencing these types of situations more frequently due to urbanisation. Clearly has a pro environmental stance but the film follows conservationists as it's main characters so of course it would. I liked that they fleshed out the characters and made like them enough that there were stakes. I've seen people complain about the creature not 'looking scary enough' but it's based off a real animal and is meant to be somewhat grounded in reality. The CGI is surprisingly well done so when the carnifex is on screen it's not distracting. There is a lot of set up for the characters and for the creature so I can see how the hunt taking place at night could be disappointing for some, but I felt like this was mostly realistic. Lighting came from whatever the characters had. They established the carnifex is an ambush predator so it wasn't going to be on screen 100% of the time. It builds tension and atmosphere. The xenomorph was only in the first alien movie for the end part, and I've never heard anyone complain that the Descent is 'too dark'. Shame this one has so many poor reviews for what I think is unfair bias when a major movie is given allowances. Definitely worth a watch if you're in to animal horror movies with character development and a bit of fear of the unknown See more Paul A 12/09/2024 If you can get past the whole Australian bush is out to kill bit which I guess is all part of a horror movie. The very very Greens dialogue is awful. “Old growth forests” that’ll be logged if the don’t find endangered species (the trees aren’t worth harvesting anyway. The “ranger” shoots anything he can’t identify and drives a 45 year old vehicle. It’s toxic Greens at their BS finest. See more Read all reviews
