Eddie Harrison film-authority.com the emphasis is on school-boy humour, but doesn't dive into smut in the way that the 1970's films do... Amanda Barrie, however, as a comically suburban Cleo makes a worthy addition to the team. Jan 25, 2018 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 2/5 Aug 26, 2005 Full Review Read all reviews

DanTheMan 2 Although designed as a send-up of the historical epics that proliferated throughout the 1960s, Carry On Cleo is an altogether bawdier affair than the notoriously extravagant behemoth that is the Burton-Taylor epic, Cleopatra; however, the decision to lampoon this particular film was made partly for practical reasons. Using costumes and sets originally intended for the infamous epic, the film is rife with the knockabout energy, brilliant wordplay, puns and visual gags. It's all on a new level from what we've seen from the team before, wittily contrasting the splendour of Ancient Rome with the prehistoric Britons dwelling in caves. Despite the notorious cheap productions that plagued the franchise, Cleo feels huge and has metatheatrical awareness. The film makes no bones about tracing its origins in music-hall and variety; jokes are delivered as separate lines direct to camera with little concern for dramatic verisimilitude. There's a real community experience of cathartic laughter with a cast who love what they're doing. Smutty without being overly crude, as historical farces go, Carry On Cleo is up there as one of the best, pure infamy in its finest form. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Audience Member Very funny. Only spoilt by the 1960s/1970s Tumble Twist toilet seat cover on Amanda Barries head when she is in the bath. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review bill t One of the better Carry Ons. Fun spoof on the Cleopatra legend. Nice use of costumes and sets here. The cast are starting to look tired looking (aka, I'm growing tired of them lol) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Good, funny film (now on blu-ray) The costumes and much of the set came from the Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton film of the same year; Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent parody of cleopatra Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The first Carry On in color, but I found it a bit less amusing than the previous Spying entry. Lots of great double entendres but that was about it. Dale has a much larger role as the heroic English slave Horsa, but Williams is still the center of it all as Caesar.
