DanTheMan 2 Apr 10 In a somewhat misguided attempt to move with the times, Carry On Girls represents a significant shift from the series' iconic nudge-nudge, wink-wink humour to much more risqué material and on-screen nudity. The cruder gags have taken centre stage, steering the film closer to the British sex film style that was about to render the Carry Ons anachronistically prim. However, most of the familiar routines are still here in their saucy capacity and offer a fair share of amusing situations; the cast does their best to convince us this is fun we're watching, turning an otherwise ill-advised venture into the realms of entertaining absurdity as they so often do. Yet the air of the past it's prime seaside town where any downpour is not too far away saps a fair chunk of amusement from the film, especially as so little of it takes place at the beach. Yes, the format feels a little tired and stale by now and it's far from being the best of the series with many poignant flaws and yet, for what it's worth, Carry On Girls has a lot of genuinely hilarious moments that don't make it a total failure, it's certainly watchable and not quite as dull as its grim seaside location depicts it as. All sorts of hijinx ensue. I was actually laughing out loud in some parts. Again, it sort of stumbled to a conclusion, but oh well.
