DanTheMan 2 Anne of a Thousand Lays. Like a well-oiled machine fully in control of the material, Carry On Henry is the typical knockabout affair you've come to expect from this franchise, offering the familiar mix of bawdy humour and slapstick, sadly, you can sense the charm slowly draining away from the series. There are corny gags galore but very little in terms of comedic momentum; it simply trundles along. However, there's much to-ing and froing around the king's devious plotting, tight-fitting bodices and Sid James truly working his end, wringing every drop of humour from a great script. It certainly helps that this is another of the more visually impressive films of the series, despite being made on a minuscule budget typically afforded to the team; it looks stunning, thanks to some well-crafted art direction and costume work, achieving an authentic recreation of the court of England's most notorious monarch, all sumptuously staged. In many ways, Carry On Henry sees a reduction of English history to an aristocratic bedroom farce, but it's still got plenty of laughs from a cast who are giving it their all, it may be fast and loose with its history but that's always been the Carry On way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review Audience Member Carry On movies have no continuity. I have no obligation to watch them in any specific order! Piss off! Carry On Henry is much better than the underwhelming Sergeant with much better pacing, acting, comedic timing and skits even if it's not as consistently funny as some of the other Britcoms I've seen in my life, has a fairly weak plot and a somewhat abrupt ending. It's not as memorable as Monty Python but Carry On Henry was a humongous improvement over Sergeant and I'm glad I saw this one rather than bothering with the second entry, especially since the early entries suck from what I've heard. If I ever see any other movie in this long-running series, all I can say is: Carry On Making Me Laugh. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review brendan n This was a little disappointing compared to Carry on Camping. The humour wasn't as sharp or quick witted but there was some little moments that were laugh out loud. The biggest issue was the inconsistent storyline that attempts to use the situation instead of the larger story at hand. I found myself a little bored at times and this felt more like a sketch film when it should have been serving the larger arc. I hope the rest of the films can build into something bigger and better but this is definitely a dated film that never hits the high road. 24-03-2018. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Procrastinating tiddles. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member By this time the series was honed to perfection but at the same time getting a bit similar to the previous one. Still a giggle though. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty funny in places doesn't lose the humour unlike other Carry Ons. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
