Kyle M Aesthetical mimicry somewhat as a promising start in addition to the displayed gimmick, till it erotically gone downhill once the intentional true colors are fully unveiled in all of its disgust and regret, which is something you should expect from a low-budget DTV film in attempt to scare unprofessionally and unconvincingly. (C-) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I have been a horror fan my whole life, this film is an insult to the original film. Some films(most) should not be re-made. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It'd been awhile since I'd seen the original, at least I'm guessing this is a remake of that title, so that's why I decided to check it out. I don't remember a whole lot about the older version of the same title but these characters are more unlikeable and this somehow looks cheaper and more generic after the opening scene. It's not like the original set the bar high, so for this to actually be worse... it's pretty bad. It does get interesting when it starts getting into the Necronomicon and Cthulhu but it's too little, too late and nowhere near enough of those elements. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Bad! Boring! Male gaze-y! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member For horror fans it is definitely an interesting entry. It has some wtf moments but sadly not enough too be fully enjoyable as such. Tries too much to stick to a pretty basic genre formula and takes too much time to take off in trying to build a fully accomplished backstory but then expediates it all quickly in the last ten minutes. And sometimes feels a little too much like a TV movie but on the other times has other times great visuals and good make up effects and some creepy stuff to keep you awake. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member People reviewing this movie aren't fans of H.P. Lovecraft and horror movies. This movie did a great job bridging H.P. Lovecraft universe together. This movie is much better than the remake. Beginning was a little slow, but ending twist was very good. There is also awesome post credits scene at the end of the movie that H.P. Lovecraft fans will LOVE!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut Influenced as much by Lovecraft as Gordon, Castle Freak is a rich and ambitious film about a blind young woman who inherits a castle with a secret. Rated: 4/5 Feb 18, 2021 Full Review Amanda Mazzillo Film Inquiry Castle Freak is an interesting update to a familiar horror film and manages to add more of the Lovecraftian influence back into the world. Dec 31, 2020 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film For all that it plays with some familiar archetypes, stylistically it's breath of fresh air, and Catherine's work in the lead gives it a strange kind of sincerity that will stay with you. Rated: 4/5 Dec 11, 2020 Full Review Matt Donato What To Watch It's the Skinemax answer to Gordon's cult-favorite, removing any mystery and replacing it with unsavory sleaze. An unforgivably dull, moodless, misfire remake. Rated: 1.5/5 Dec 8, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
