      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It's a bloody geyser of Neil Marshall's typically stylish B-movie action, but Centurion is too focused on hacking and slashing to deliver original dialogue or interesting characters.

Tom Yes, it's gory. But that's history folks. Varus' lost 3 legions in an ambush in the woods of Germany; well documented by contemporary historians. They may not have used tumbling fireballs, but the swarming tribes of Germans were probably a lot like the bloodthirsty Picts of this movie. If you want a fairy tale, watch the Pompeii movie; if you want something more realistic, watch this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review Rebecca G Michael Fassbender is wasted in this. He acted the hell out of it but they gave him no story or anything. Not good at all. Fire the director. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Juan S A great movie for those fans of the genre. I thoroughly enjoyed its run time with a rewarding ending. Realistic gore and effects help carry the movie along as well as realistic scenarios and injuries. Roteiro: Bom roteiro Vale apena assistir? Sim (youtube) Nota: 7 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member So much potential. They let us down. Weak ending. Go true dark, or go home. After the bs assasination attempt, don't try to salvage a happy ending. Say what you wanted to say. Then roll credits. Don't try to beg forgiveness from your audience afterwards. My 2 cents. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The action was pretty good but there were so many moments that take you out of the film such as Roman soldiers with spears through them managing to fight and kill people and some others with crazy injuries. That can be looked over easily though. The worst part of the film is that they portrayed the invaders as the good guys and the people defending their country as ruthless and evil subhumans. Was waiting for the part where it shows they are the bad guys but it never comes, so disappointed Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Shadow and Act Staff Shadow and Act The running voice-over throughout the film felt unnecessary – whether as Dias’ interior monologue, or even as a griot of sorts. It served no instructive purpose. Sep 13, 2022 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader Auteur cinema of a very narrow stripe, this personalizes a familiar genre to advance a singularly pessimistic view of humanity.
