Sarah Mirk Bitch Media Like crossing paths with strangers in real life, I left my interactions with these women mulling over small details and wondering what remained unsaid. Feb 12, 2021 Full Review Kate Taylor Globe and Mail With the third act, the power of Reichardt's elliptical approach becomes apparent. Rated: 4/4 May 19, 2017 Full Review Bruce DeMara Toronto Star This is not a film of big revelations or ready-made solutions. It's gentle and finely executed storytelling about ordinary people longing for connection and meaning as they face the challenges of another day. Rated: 3/4 May 18, 2017 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Certain Women is a Kelly Reichardt film through and through. Again, her style isn’t for everyone, but if you fall into her rhythm, there’s some proactive and cinematic gold here... Rated: A Aug 19, 2024 Full Review George Elkind Metro Times (Detroit, MI) Dealing with desire and its array of repercussions, the segment makes space for the role of class and aspiration in shaping or halting possible connection, without being so bold as to make any declarations of their definite effect. Mar 3, 2023 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine Reichardt’s films take place in an atmosphere of heightened quiet, and here she reaches a new level of concentration. Ian-John C beautiful, quiet movie that celebrates the impossibility of the kind of boring life that somehow just keeps going on. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Cetinic-dorol J Disappointed with the development of the story line as it was slow, boring and uneventful, apart from a ‘docile hostage' situation. The actors were not really able to exhibit any authenticity in their roles due to the lack of depth in the plot. The monotonous and nondescript events belied the scenery and setting of the movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Janine C A brilliant cast. Disappointing ending. Music. Views of Montana. Bad things: All the rest. Washing my socks for 1:46 minutes would make more sense. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/23 Full Review Dave S Kelly Reichardt's Certain Women is, like all of Reichardt's films, a quiet and meditative affair. Set in Montana, it is the story of women in search of a missing piece, blocked along the way by seen or unseen forces. The three stories, all adapted from Maile Meloy's short fiction, are very loosely interwoven; a female lawyer (Laura Dern) working in a profession where her voice is not heard; a wife (Michelle Williams) who is undermined by her husband; a ranch hand (Lily Gladstone) who yearns for a relationship with a visiting law instructor (Kristen Stewart). The movie is filled with subtle performances, strategic and intricately framed shots, and images that often say more than the dialogue. While it clearly isn't for all tastes, Certain Women is very much what movies should be. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
