After her family is killed, Mumtaz (Tabu) moves to Mumbai to live with her cruel, impoverished uncle. He forces her to get a job at a dirty dive bar, where she must dance for disreputable men. Tragedy strikes when her uncle rapes her, after which Mumtaz finds comfort in the arms of Potiya (Atul Kulkarni), a gangster smitten with her. But, after Mumtaz and Potiya get married and have children, Potiya shows his true colors by abandoning his family, leaving them to fend for themselves.
