Inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. I found Chevalier captivating but the man himself was often lost to the love story in the film. I was left wanting to learn more about Bologne, especially his work during the French Revolution. That period of his life really should have been included.

Feels much like the “tragic mulatto” tale of old, a stereotypical rendering of a biracial Black who struggles to fit in as a minority and—due to prevailing prejudices—cannot achieve social status among Whites either.

I enjoyed the story line and being a musical prodigy With all the obstacles of being Black gave him the strength to be great in all of his endeavors. This described many of our ancestors being better than the best until some will deny their greatness and limit There opportunities.
