Two schoolfriends in a dead-end town in the East of England join forces with a green-fingered grandad to fence a shed of weed that the old man has accidentally grown on his allotment. Together they form an alliance of age and youth, an unlikely partnership of the forgetful and the forgotten. The badlands of East Anglia. A young man (Jayce) is released from prison after serving time for a crime he didn't commit. Broke and looking for answers, he goes into business with an elderly neighbor (Kev) to fence a shed of weed the old man has grown on his allotment. Thomas Boyd Little White Lies It’s a dull, eye-roll-inducing half-way house of a film, neither a biting, black comedy nor an uplifting, whimsical jaunt. Rated: 2/5 Jul 7, 2025 Full Review Kevin Maher The Times (UK) There are great lines hidden in the mulch, mostly delivered by Fellows... But the film inevitably degenerates and too much of it is tiresome, flabby and overindulgent. Rated: 2/5 Jul 2, 2025 Full Review Danny Leigh Financial Times Chicken Town can feel a little scuffed too, with a few creaks to the dialogue, but it is likeable and lovingly made, down to the detail of Bernard Hughes’ sprightly score, and the careful look of the suburban landscape. Rated: 3/5 Jul 1, 2025 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming Chicken Town is not a serious feature, and it never attempts to be one. It’s a light-hearted romp with likeable characters and a lot of great gags. Rated: 3/5 Jul 28, 2025 Full Review Kevin Harley Radio Times Laurence Rickard offers a droll cameo as a conspiracy-minded mechanic, but Chicken Town never quite fulfils its promise, much less finds its tonal footing. Rated: 2/5 Jul 2, 2025 Full Review Helen Hawkins The Arts Desk ...this is Fellows at half-speed, obliged to produce chunks of dialogue that need cutting or speeding up through snappier editing. There’s a sluggish, overly text-bound feel to the piece, when sight gags would work better. Rated: 2/5 Jun 27, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews
