Nathan A solid work that mirrors Ghibli classics in terms of scope, themes and imagination. At its core, the film carries an important lesson about loss, grief and healing. However, the pacing could be better, making the characters more memorable. Mimi was definitely a favourite though! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Audience Member Thankfully, the animation is fantastic, saving it from the many unresolved questions and inconsistencies. Many things happen to serve the plot, rather than logic, and in a ghibli-esque world, characters must also abide common sense and reasonable motivations. It tries to conceal the failing by wrapping it up in talks of life and death, of romance and loss, of family and mysticism. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a great movie, liked it a lot. Minus one star for killing off my favorite character, Mimi, halfway through the movie tho- 😭🔫 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review lucca b An affectionate blend of coming of age and fantasy, with a whimsical style, stunning visuals and a charming story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It was pretty good, I didn't feel extremely attached to all of the characters, and there are some things that definitely could have been done better, but overall, I'd say it was worth watching. It's no Tenki no ko or Kimi no na wa, though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Makoto Shinkai is officially a storyteller who rises in entertainment value and improves. His third feature-length picture may not have his exact distinctive signature but rather as his suggestible book to place in Ghibli's special section from how imaginative he envisioned and kept it balanced without struggling which to focus on if he'd entered convolution when dealing with fantasy reality-manipulating elements. The heart here fully blooms, blossomed by the emotional attachment towards the characters' arcs and how it brings the authorship theme to full circle on dealing with loss by overcoming grief, taking things further by essentially labeling it as a therapeutic journey.
