In "Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers," Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful television series was canceled, and Chip (voice of John Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale (voice of Andy Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend's life.

Kristy Puchko Mashable Beyond paling in comparison to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers' attempt at commenting on animation's missteps feels safe and stale, as all their references are already well-worn punchlines. Matthew L #disney Hey, um......... watch the cartoon before you make fun of the cartoon. Sure, it will take you 3 whole days to watch a TV show. But hey, just pay a writer a 3 day wage for research or something. Because while you made something good for people who don't know the brand IP, it does raise the question of "Why even have the brand IP if not for the original flavor of it?". If I had a big store sign that said "The Chocolate Cake store" and it had nothing but cheeseburgers, I would go out of business. Because the burger fans would find me invisible while the chocolate cake fans would be set up for dissapointment. You made something entertaining here.......... but that seems like mostly an accident in hindsight. And I am surprised you got away with the disrespectful Peter Pan humor that......... really should have been something else. OR go one more step further to make the most out of the joke. Make Tinkerbell a pole dancer, and have Peter make threats like "What made the Dead Man Dead?". You had a lot of lost opportunities that were not a matter of budget or censorship, but of research and thought. Research and thought is almost free. I say this here because I did like it, but it felt like "Some rich guys had a script that could apply to any cartoon characters. Lets rundown the list of whom we can use. There we go. I do not know Chip and Dale. I wish we could do this with Darkwing Duck or Ducktales. But here we are. Hey, I got some friends in hollywood. Lets make calls". It is story telling by way of actor-play-date rather than story telling by planning a vision and mood. It is a comedy, yes. It shows affection for animation, yes. Could one week of watching cartoons and talking about them make a better story that people would love and rewatch more? Absolutely. I just hope the psychotic intern for Disney that scours reviews for 4th wall breaking jokes in Disney Plus shows gets to this and sends the message upstairs: Take an extra week to learn to love what IP you are using next. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/03/25 Full Review Kiandra N Man this movie are double good, the animation are great and it look so funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Useless367 A I loved the many art styles and references there was in the movie I ALSO LOVE THE STORYLINE Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Jay W I am probably the exact type of person they made this movie for. I am in my thirties, and I really liked the original Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers cartoon series. I've played and beaten both of their great NES games. But I definitely did not want to see a live action reboot of the property. I am a big fan of animation and did NOT want to see yet another soulless "reimagining" of a classic property. This movie seems to share my distain for these recent wave of reboots. If you come into this film expecting an episode of the series, but stretched out to a feature length runtime and with a higher budget, this is not that movie. In this movie Chip and Dale are actors who were stars of the "Rescue Rangers" T. V. series. This movie takes place in the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" world, where cartoon characters are just like everyday people. But in addition to 2D animation there are also puppets, Muppets, Claymation, CGI and bad CGI characters. This world that they inhabit, is where the best jokes of the movie come from. This world is full of animated characters from various animated properties making cameos and being the punchline to jokes. What separates this film from something like "Space Jam: a New Legacy" or "Ready Player One" is that the characters are surprisingly not all owned by one company. Disney is huge, and owns so many properties it surprised me that they actually collaborated with several of their competitors to fill this world with various other cartoon cameos. We have characters from Hasbro, DreamWorks, Warner Brothers, Comedy Central. There is one cameo in particular that I can not believe the company signed off for because it is so self-deprecating on the character. But it is the funniest joke of the movie. You do end up wishing they would have done more with these characters after spending all the legal fees to get them in the movie. But I guess I should be grateful for what we got. There are a lot of great animation jokes in the movie. The two leads literally visit the "uncanny valley" where we have jokes about "Polar Express" style animation. The villain's scheme is also very funny and pokes fun at the animation industry as a whole. You may have noticed most of the review has focused on the world building and background jokes, that is because honestly that is the movies greatest strength. Chip and Dale have some funny lines in the film, but their constant bickering was not really working for me. There is a third character that joins up with them, and they don't bring much to the table as far as jokes go. At a certain point they almost seemed like a self-insert fan fic with Chip and Dale. It's not that Andy Sandberg and John Mulaney are doing a bad job, just for me, they were not consistently funny. Wish the two/ three leads were funnier, wish the cameos would have done more in the story, but I shouldn't be comparing this movie to what I wanted it to be, I should be grading it for what it is. And for what it is, it's a pretty good time. If you want a good film just call, "Ch-ch-ch- Chip N' Dale!"
