"Chuck & Buck" is the story of a childlike young man who becomes fixated on his onetime best friend, now a cool, polished young record executive. Charting the collision of two individuals, once inseparable, who have responded in opposite ways to the onset of adulthood, the film takes a clear-eyed, sensitive look at childhood and the consequences of hanging onto it too tightly or renouncing it too thoroughly.

Gavin Smith Film Comment Magazine The film is pretty negligible, pointless, almost an exercise. Apr 10, 2018 Full Review David Germain Associated Press Chuck & Buck is a dark misfit of a movie that's sweet, scary, thought-provoking and off-putting all in one package. It's a bold, original achievement. Jan 18, 2018 Full Review Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post Skirts stalker cliches and grown-up-kid-in-a-man's-body caricatures. Feb 12, 2008 Full Review Chuck Klosterman Akron Beacon Journal If it sounds like something you'd hate, you're probably right. But for those who are interested in films about ideas -- and particularly ideas that challenge your perception of normalcy -- Chuck & Buck might be the only "must see" of the summer. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 27, 2023 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault A detailed and often moving work. Rated: B Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Jan Stuart The Advocate The best news about [the film's] unexpected second act is Lupe Ontiveros, who plays a pragmatic theater manager whom Buck recruits to helm his playwriting debut. Douglas P I have followed Mike White for a while and I like what he does. He is a gifted writer and actor. Chuck and Buck is a movie worth watching, a bit different but I enjoyed it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/23 Full Review scott s After watching this film, I never would have imagined where I thought the film was going at the beginning of where it ended up at the end. Great story about reconciling the past while trying to find your identity in the future. It had moments that made you uncomfortable and fearful, but there was an underlining sense that things were not going to get to a point of dread. I'd at least recommend a single watch through, but nothing worthy that wants me to re-watch it again. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Creepy but interesting. I thought the guy that played buck did a really good creep but Chuck cannot act and sort of ruined it. I was not expecting the ending so that is what made this movie memorable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member More of a drama than anything else. I found Chuck too sad to be funny. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member As bizarre and unsettling as the premise of this movie is, I've got to hand it to its sexual honesty. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Striving to be the next Harold and Maude or Rushmore, Chuck and Buck never really moves out of second gear. Autistic orphan Buck decides to stalk his childhood pal Chuck. No-one loses their temper, no-one refers him to the mental health services. Instead he engineers the production of his own dreadful play. A missed opportunity really. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
