Jordan King Empire Magazine Chuck Steel's claymation carnage and genre-spoofing shenanigans are great fun, but its repetitious, offensive jokes dilute the fun. Rated: 3/5 Nov 2, 2021 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian It's a silly, fun storyline, but Mort hasn't whittled his satire to a sharp enough tip. Rated: 3/5 Oct 26, 2021 Full Review Jordan Mintzer The Hollywood Reporter If you're willing to just sit back and enjoy all the nods, winks and over-the-top violence, Chuck Steel is a rather fun ride, with Mort and his animation team faithfully re-creating the slick and sleazy aesthetics of bargain-bin action and horror flicks. Jun 18, 2018 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof A golden opportunity to encounter a genre film that the industry doesn't make any more in a movie you wouldn't find advertised on subway platforms or buses. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Jul 7, 2023 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall Finely rendered stop-motion animation and a witty script keep this action pastiche entertaining even when it gets silly. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 4, 2021 Full Review Andy Lea Daily Express (UK) Not all the gags hit their marks but this unhinged take on Lethal Weapon drives a stake through the liver of the buddy movie. Audience Member It's a strange one, I was watching it thinking I really shouldn't like this film and yet I actually did enjoy it. The animation is excellent and I'd recommend giving it a go even if it is just once. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/11/24 Full Review Lady D This is just brilliant! Sharp script, great animation and loads and loads of action. Mike Mort should replace Nick Park as the king of model animation. Not only does he write and direct Trampires, he is the standout voice artist performing as no less than FOUR main characters (plus I suspect a host of secondary cast members), including the lead, Chuck Steel, who epitomises every stereotype cop of the '80's with such aplomb that you can forgive him at times for pushing the non PC element a little too far. I've got to be honest, I know Mike from film school back in the 90's and even then he was obsessed with his lantern-jawed alter ego. As a nerdy, animation obsessed, Welsh geek in a parka, who wouldn't have wanted to be a total badass like Chuck Steel. Well let me tell you Mike he is as brilliant now as he was back then and I look forward to the next installment. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/08/24 Full Review Deano S Nothing original but feels it based on modern cinema. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Audience Member *wheezing* . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Just recently watch this film and it is nothing short of a masterpiece, the story of the development of this film when mike originally write the script in 2001 and the character conceived in school is very much a an epic underdog tale in its self. Anyway, moving on to the film its self it has got a short film based in 1986, Chuck Steel: Raging Balls of Steel Justice which I also highly recommend watching as it is available to watch online for free and is 14 minutes long which gives you a insight into the world of Chuck. The feature film it self is truly stunning, I came out of the theatre speechless. The visuals of the film are beautiful with the right style and cinematography to give you the style of of a classic 80's action film. The story of the film was lovely were you get the development through the film and the film is really hilarious with brilliant comedy that really had me laughing constantly thought the film. The film is definitely intended for an adult and is one definitely to add to your list of films to watch (High up that list I may add). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member A masterpiece in animation. I didn't stop laughing from start to finish. Truly amazing animation, hilarious dialogue and over the top characters make for one of the most entertaining cinema visits this year! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
