David d The idea was crazy and some of the gags were excellent, but much more could have been made of the storyline which often is much too weak to entertain. And at times the performances fall flat on their face as well... Churchill was not the elderly sigar-toting statesman, that was just an actor and figurehead. In reality he was a young American lieutenant, send over by the US to assist the Brits face Hitler..... the particular Brits that he meets though are more on the side of Hitler and ready to betray England, in particular Lord Wruff, the Chief of Staff.... Hitler, Bohrmann and Goering secretly fly into England to meet with Wruff, and - crazily - all parties encounter each other at a party at King Georges palace. Thus we come to a standoff where the Americans are mainly fighting treacherous Brits rather then the Germans, save for the end part... Weak point is that the humor in the film has to come much more from individual gags, rather than from the storyline. Also at times even Christian Slater seems uninspired. Probably because of the meagre actions they gave him. Much more could have been made of it if he and Neve Campbell had been giving more balsier roles and lines, now they are going around like young pups or kittens and even talking like that at times.... We did have a few good laughs -for example watch Hitler get his hair styled by an English barber and notice Bohrmann being a cockney rather than an Arian. But all in all it does not make for a good movie. See it on an evening that you feel goofy, with some drinks. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Audience Member Great movie. Why all the negative comments ? I guess some people just don't like to laugh and feel good. All time favourite Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of our favourite movies of all time. People, give it another try Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't know why this score is so low, this is really, really funny. It's not just Rik Mayall but even if it was, still worth giggling over. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Hollywood executives look to make the re-telling of WWII more exiting, and end up with a very bizarre story. Christian Slater plays Winston Churchill, a USMC who has an affair with princess Elizabeth II (Neve Campbell). He also captures an Enigma machine and almost single-handily wins the war. All this while Hitler sets up residency in Buckingham Palace. Very few of the jokes landed. Funny premise, but utter crap. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A brilliant comedy, satire and, almost, pantomime, on Churchill, Hitler and an assorted cast of royal and political figures from that era. Do not watch me in kamp f. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
